Submissions

The Memorious is always looking for writing that moves, provokes, and endures. We read every submission with care.

What We Publish

We accept simultaneous submissions, but please notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere. We do not accept previously published work, including writing that has appeared on personal blogs or social media. All submissions should be sent as a single document in standard manuscript format.

Fiction

1,000 – 3,000 words

Short stories that surprise us. We are drawn to precise language, genuine feeling, and narratives that trust the reader.

Creative Nonfiction

1,000 – 2,500 words

Essays, meditations, and memoir that illuminate the human condition. We value clarity of thought and beauty of expression in equal measure.

Flash Fiction

Up to 750 words

Brief, complete stories that carry the weight of much longer work. Every word must earn its place.

Poetry

Up to 5 pages

Submit up to five pages of poetry, which may include a single long poem or several shorter pieces. We have no formal preferences.

General Guidelines

• Include a brief cover letter with your name, the title(s) of your submission(s), the genre, and a short bio of no more than fifty words.
• Use standard manuscript format: double-spaced, 12-point serif font, one-inch margins. Poetry may be single-spaced.
• We respond to all submissions within sixty days. If you have not heard from us after ninety days, please follow up.
• We do not charge reading fees. We never will.
• Contributors to the print magazine receive two complimentary copies of the issue in which their work appears.
